Abstract

The integrated analysis of the chapters comprising The Economics of Gender Inequality in Latin America leads to the conclusion that gender inequalities in the labor market are structural phenomena deeply rooted in the history, culture, and economic organization of the region. Far from being a circumstantial issue, these inequalities persist and are reshaped even in contexts of social transformation, such as the expansion of digital labor or the health crisis triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. The evidence presented confirms that the progress achieved in terms of women’s participation in the labor market coexists with systemic barriers that limit equity in earnings, working conditions, and social recognition.
