Abstract

By considering the causes and consequences of perfectionism, Chapter 3 provides readers with a greater understanding of why it&s;s such a destructive condition in an educational context. In addition to outlining the emotional toll that perfectionism takes on students’ well-being, it also explores the different theories about whether perfectionism is entirely harmful in an academic context. Breaking down the concept into sub-categories, this chapter places perfectionism in a societal context and provides explanations for its increasing prevalence among students.
