Abstract

Craft is founded on the transmission of manual skills, often passed down through guild systems from master to apprentice. It is inherently local, in both materials and cultural knowledge ( Ricard 2000 ). Crafted objects evolve over generations, incorporating practical adaptations and allowing for repairs or improvements as needed. This capacity for revision is a defining feature of craft.
