Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into psychotherapy for neurocognitive rehabilitation may serve as either a replacement or a complement to traditional therapeutic methods. The advanced programming languages render AI capable to enhance accessibility and efficiency in mental health treatment such as offering real-time data and personalized interventions, potentially improving patient engagement and monitoring. Furthermore, studies have shown that AI tools, such as chatbots, can effectively administer cognitive-behavioral therapy, yielding results comparable to those of human therapists. Yet, the ability of AI to understand the complexities of human emotion and therapeutic nuances remains controversial. Human therapists provide empathy, validation, and safety—elements crucial for effective therapeutic alliances. In addition to the above-mentioned concerns, ethical considerations such as data privacy and the potential for algorithmic bias are important factors that must be addressed before incorporating AI in psychotherapy to ensure that it does not sabotage efficacy in mental health care. Ultimately, while AI presents valuable opportunities for enhancing neurocognitive rehabilitation, it is unlikely to fully replace human therapists. A hybrid model that combines AI tools with traditional psychotherapy may offer an optimal approach, leveraging technological advancements while preserving the essential human elements of care.
