Abstract

The concluding chapter considers how the analyses carried out in the previous chapters speak to the ways hope shapes the revolutionary aims of trad futurism. Illustrating how trad futurism relates to and diverges from other contemporary affective-temporal orientations to futurity that are pointedly nihilistic, it extends the discussion from the previous chapter of how trad future-building practices constellate past, present, and future to pass through neoliberal and neofascist impasses. This leads to an overview of some key scholarly characterizations of contemporary capitalism to support the claim that trad futurism is contributing to shaping a new spirit of neoliberalism-nearing-neofascism. The chapter further summarizes the book’s central point regarding the role of social media in facilitating the trad answers to the neoliberal and neofascist woman questions. It also highlights instances where social media itself presents an impasse to trad future-building and considers the potential for empathic ethnographic encounters to create common ground and make a step towards revitalizing feminism among those that feel most alienated from it. As part of this, it emphasizes the need for a different kind of revolution against neoliberal precarity, one that effects a structural metamorphosis instead of the palingenetic transformation of bad feelings to good enough ones.
