Abstract

This research has revealed important factors impacting youth transitioning out of foster care. By utilizing a criminological perspective, it contributes to the knowledge on this population and responds to the call for more research from criminologists (Laub, 2018; Yi & Wildeman, 2018). Findings from this study augment our understanding of the negative impact of juvenile justice involvement on this vulnerable and traumatized population of youth. Results also provide insight into the positive effect of education and employment on young adult outcomes of foster care alumni. This discussion begins with consideration of young adult outcomes of foster youth. Following this general overview, this chapter outlines the theoretical, research, and policy implications of key relationships analyzed in this research.
