Abstract

This chapter situates Generation Z within the technological, social, and religious contexts that frame the study. Constant connectivity, the pandemic, mental-health challenges, and economic precarity form the backdrop against which religious and spiritual meaning is negotiated. Survey data reveal declining institutional affiliation, as well as enduring spiritual openness and revival in some regions. The chapter concludes with the rise of influencer-exemplars—digital figures who reshape religious authority and practice—thus setting the stage for the Exemplarist Narrative Analysis that follows.
