Abstract

The Space Between Narrative centers on Jesse&s;s encounters with ambiguous exemplars and existential uncertainty. One quarter of the dataset, these stories replace clarity with paradox. Western-coded versions frame ambiguity as tension and escape; Eastern-inflected ones treat it as a path to wisdom. Drawing on surrealism and literary theory, the chapter shows how for many Gen Zers ambiguity itself becomes formative. Exemplarism here expands beyond moral certainty to include opacity, paradox, and aesthetic atmosphere as modes of spiritual learning.
