Abstract

In this chapter we discuss different methods of observation appropriate to different aims and questions posed by the observer. More specifically we outline some of the most frequently used methods of observation, discussing their strengths and limitations and exploring practical considerations. We conclude by arguing that methods of observation must be fit for purpose to adequately address the aims and questions of our observations.
