(Re)Learning with Nature in the City
Abstract
Sally Guyon and Will Parnell explore nature education in a laboratory school at Portland State University in the United States, positioning nature as teacher, co-learner, and protagonist. By means of storying practices informed by poststructural and Indigenous perspectives, they challenge sanitized views of nature by foregrounding children&s;s lived experiences in city spaces. From ants at a transit stop to dragonflies in a lily pad garden, the chapter illustrates how “thinking with” nature fosters ecological awareness, relational pedagogy, and an ethic of care in early childhood education.
