Weeping Dubček, Shocked Society: Use and Misuse of Historical Memory during the Czechoslovak Crisis of 1968
Abstract
This chapter examines how the Prague Spring of 1968 and the subsequent Warsaw Pact invasion are remembered in the Czech Republic. It discusses how historical memory of these traumatic events has been instrumentalised in Czech politics, particularly during periods of tension with Russia, and how it plays into larger discourses on national sovereignty, resilience, and European security.
