Abstract

The 2022 Scotland census misclassification of Italians from Rome as Roma illustrates how language rewrites reality. Story Systems examines this slippage between sign and sense as a site of cultural intelligence. Built on scenario DNA’s Culture Mapping method and grounded in Peirce’s triadic model of semiosis (sign, object, interpretant), it treats culture as a living system of evolving narratives. Integrating semiotics, linguistics, and structured analytic techniques, it advances foresight as an ethical, relational, and adaptive practice. The book offers a framework for mapping how meaning moves through stories, systems, and technologies to shape the futures societies can imagine.
