Abstract

This part introduces a structured set of methods to support systems practice. It explains how the methods were selected, their origins across disciplines, and how they are organized using the 5M structure: Motivate, Meet, Map, Make, and Manage. The chapter highlights the range of practical goals these methods serve, including framing situations, engaging stakeholders, mapping systems, designing interventions, and adapting over time. It also explains the five focus areas used to guide method selection: Understand, Collaborate, Strategize, Innovate, and Adapt. Methods come from systems thinking, facilitation, design, and organizational practice. They are presented as flexible tools to support reflection, action, and learning in complex settings.]
