Abstract

As far back as the 1980s, Jean Ayres observed that “there is a common misconception that dyspraxia is only a motor disorder” ( Ayres & Cermak, 2011 , p 42). In fact, she argued, “neural activity” – that is, thinking – is also required before a motor action can occur. To successfully complete an activity, we first need to have a mental representation of what to do – a plan of action. We must not only know the steps, but also be able to sequence, plan and organise them.
