Abstract

This chapter explains how Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) enhance speed, reliability, and sustainability in last-mile delivery for e-commerce and Q-commerce. It outlines a practical toolkit dynamic routing, real-time traffic guidance, geofencing and access rules, micro-hub consolidation, electronic proof of delivery, and locker networks supported by mobile platforms, blockchain, and data analytics that provide continuous visibility from warehouse to doorstep. A comparative view distinguishes Q-commerce needs for instant dispatch, micro-routing, and edge processing from e-commerce strategies based on batching and scheduled slots. Short case notes from Germany, Japan, India, Spain, and Singapore illustrate measurable reductions in vehicle-kilometres, delivery time, and emissions, alongside improvements in success rates. The chapter also considers adoption barriers, including interoperability, fragmented governance, up-front costs, and skills, and proposes near-term pathways that link ITS with digital twins, automation, and targeted policy measures.
