Abstract

Chapter 4 introduces the first step of the Non-Negotiable Practice: identifying what truly matters. Instead of chasing urgent but unimportant tasks, readers learn to anchor their actions in long-term values and meaningful purpose. The chapter provides practical frameworks, including the Eisenhower Matrix for separating urgent from important tasks, the Future-Self Decision Filter for evaluating priorities across multiple time horizons, and the “Top Two” method for daily focus. Key concepts include distinguishing between goals, habits, and non-negotiable commitments and transforming vague intentions into specific, actionable promises. Through clarity tools and reflection questions, readers develop the foundation for building sustainable practices that align with their values and support meaningful progress toward their long-term vision.
