The Admonitory Path
Abstract
This chapter argues that Rabbi Meir Kahane transforms Holocaust memory into a theological warning system, structuring his entire political program. Treating the historical Holocaust as a “chosen trauma,” he recasts it as the divinely ordained result of Jewish assimilation and coexistence with gentiles. In his algorithmic reading of history, the Holocaust verifies an immutable law: whenever Jews blur boundaries or refuse aliyah , catastrophe follows with mechanical certainty. The precedent is therefore admonitory rather than commemorative, demanding urgent return to Israel, radical separatism, and ultimately the removal or subjugation of Arabs to avert a second, “spiritual” or physical holocaust. Kahane’s rhetoric fuses deterministic theology and apocalyptic politics, delegitimizing liberal ideals of equality as the very sins that triggered Auschwitz. By weaponizing Holocaust memory, he reframes past suffering as present instruction, converting remembrance into an uncompromising call to action and presenting his exclusionary vision as the sole ultimate safeguard of Jewish survival.
