Assessing event success
Abstract
After the event has ended, there will still be administrative, physical, and evaluative responsibilities to complete. Administrative duties include closing down financial accounts and evaluating the success of the promotional campaign. Physical tasks include cleanup and trash removal. Evaluative work involves determining if the event goals were met, including the decision as to whether the event should be held again. Visitor satisfaction can be determined through observation and noting what activities are popular. A survey can be given after the event to gain knowledge. Personal interviews help provide ideas for improvement. The budget needs to be analyzed to see if the financial goals set for the event were met. The economic impact of the event on the business community should be assessed. Visitor numbers should be calculated and then analyzed to see if the targeted visitor segment attended. The economic impact of the event will be of interest to the community. This would include the increase in sales of local merchants. Sponsors should be visited after the event to determine if their goals were met and to gather information for the future.
