Abstract

This chapter examines the evolution and significance of event design as a multidisciplinary practice that integrates creativity, strategy, and participant-centred approaches. It highlights design not merely as logistics but as a transformative process shaping emotions, interactions, and societal impact. By drawing on frameworks such as experience economy and participatory design models, the text emphasizes co-creation, service design, and holistic event journeys that extend from anticipation to post-event reflection. Expert insights, including those of Stephen Revetria and Angeles Moreno, illustrate how authentic, human-centred experiences foster transformation at personal and professional levels, transcending spectacle in favour of empathy, inclusivity, and relevance. Case studies – from global forums to brand activations – demonstrate design’s role as both an operational framework and a catalyst for innovation, connection, and sustainable practices. The chapter also underscores design’s power to align organizational goals with participant needs, bridging economic, social, and cultural dimensions. Ultimately, it positions event design as the cornerstone of modern meetings and experiences, enabling professionals to create purposeful, memorable, and transformative events that generate lasting value for individuals, communities, and industries.
