Abstract

This chapter in tourism and event management highlights how experiences can drive personal growth, values, and worldview. Transformative events are intentionally designed to combine emotional engagement with cognitive stimulation, enabling reflection, learning, and long-lasting impact. Co-creation between organizers and participants enhances authenticity and shared ownership of experiences. Several important models support this process. The Meetings Industry Value Chain illustrates the economic and societal contribution of meetings to broader ecosystems. The Meetings Industry Experience Design Model emphasizes the role of emotions, education, and relevance in creating meaningful experiences. The Event Experiences Design Transformation Model focuses on how events can inspire long-term change in individuals and communities. Additionally, the updated Event Management Body of Knowledge (EMBOK) offers a systematic framework, integrating adaptability and comprehensive risk management across legal, health, safety, financial, and reputational dimensions. Festivals and events remain catalysts for cultural exchange, identity formation, and social connection, while souvenirs and tangible reminders reinforce their long-term effects. Effective experience design balances entertainment, education, and personal relevance, while Actor–Network Theory helps explain stakeholder interconnections. Finally, continuous reflection and post-event engagement are essential for sustaining transformative outcomes, ensuring events contribute to personal and societal change globally.
