Abstract

This chapter highlights the critical role of proactive, evidence-based classroom management within the SWPBS framework. It illustrates how the core components of SWPBS are applied in classroom settings, and grounded in the development of strong, positive relationships among teachers, students, peers, and families. The chapter presents practical strategies for fostering these relationships and creating a supportive learning environment. Key proactive practices are detailed, including the explicit teaching of classroom rules and routines, active supervision, positive behaviour-specific feedback, and strategies to maximise student engagement. Additionally, the chapter offers evidence-based approaches for addressing behaviour difficulties, emphasising the effective and appropriate use of consequences to support student growth.
