Abstract

This chapter introduces School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) as a framework for an evidence-based approach to behaviour support. The origins of SWPBS are explained, outlining how principles drawn from individual Positive Behaviour Support and Applied Behaviour Analysis are used to develop school systems which promote positive behaviour and support all students to succeed. A brief history of SWPBS is presented, along with a summary of the implementation outcomes reported by research. The chapter introduces the concept of implementation fidelity and its importance to the attainment of improved outcomes. A discussion of the various reasons schools might have for wanting to adopt the SWPBS framework concludes the chapter.
