Abstract

This chapter introduces the first core feature of SWPBS: obtaining the support of the entire school community. Practical suggestions for engaging with stakeholders are provided. The chapter goes on to explain how beliefs about behaviour are formed and how they can change over time. Helpful beliefs about behaviour are based on behavioural science and can be used by schools to establish shared values and form guiding principles for SWPBS implementation. Examples of school vision and mission statements which reflect SWPBS values are provided. Finally, the chapter outlines practical steps for reviewing school documentation to ensure alignment with SWPBS principles and values.
