Abstract

This chapter opens by explaining the importance of teaching behaviour explicitly, using the same methods applied to academic instruction. It then outlines how to plan and sequence behaviour skills instruction across the school year. The chapter highlights the need for students to have multiple opportunities to practise these skills after they are taught. It also offers practical guidance on designing behaviour lessons and monitoring their delivery. Common reasons for staff resistance to teaching behaviour are explored, along with strategies to address these concerns. Finally, the chapter includes lesson templates and sample lessons to support implementation.
