Energy rent and post-neoliberal forms of economic management and wealth administration
Abstract
This chapter analyzes the role of energy rents in economic management and wealth administration models across different development approaches under Latin American progressivism. It identifies a fundamental paradox: in order to overcome an extractive and rent-seeking economy, peripheral countries must claim rents for the State. However, the extractive model is ultimately unsustainable due to the socio-environmental impacts it generates. Therefore, it is necessary to transition from private mechanisms of income distribution to models that socialize economic management—that is, the direct co-management of development—using energy rents to establish an economic model that gradually becomes less dependent on them.
