Abstract

This chapter aims to show the importance of Latin America in global mining production and how the most powerful economic units in this sector, the large mining companies, exhibit traits of financialized companies. Thus, the work teaches us an essential part of the behavior of the capital owners involved in mining, discussing the behavior of the most important shareholders of these companies: institutional investors seeking high profits from production processes and/or rents obtained through their operations in financial markets.
