Abstract

This chapter advances the investigation by showing how to build on the concepts established in preceding chapters. The goal is to improve city life in ways that can be gauged, which is moral utility. This concept can be employed to examine how an urban part, arrangement of parts, or a measurement of land benefits various stakeholders. Used in tandem, these “tools” can facilitate morally ordered co-planning initiatives. This chapter examines instances in New York and Bologna that favor this view. This chapter culminates in a view showing why and how the moral utility of land matters for the fight for the city.
