Abstract

Chapter 2 examines plays that occupy transitional spaces, such as the bridge connecting Laredo, an overpass outside San Antonio’s city limits, and a jail cell. While the first two plays (“Bridges” and “Nothing to Declare”) focus on duration, the last two plays feature trans individuals who become heroes or heroines of their own stories. This time, the movement inherent in the plays occurs in places that appear stagnant, and yet in this convergence, we break traditions, endure time, and utilize our power to transform ourselves and the spaces in between.
