Abstract

Fictive places chosen by the authors organize Chapter 3 . In doing so, we encounter controversial subjects, such as colorism ( El Sombrero /The Hat), economic competitiveness ( La Mascara de el Chivo /The Mask of the Goat-Man), and a search for justice (Breakfast Tacos). In asking the playwrights why they did not just place the works in Laredo, they each uttered a similar answer. By creating a fictitious place, writers can explore topics that are whispered about but never openly discussed. The questions and answers in this play are more personal, presented in grey tones, and still stir controversy. By creating a fictive setting, the messages and answers have a platform to emerge.
