Abstract

Chapter 4 is an assemblage of plays that take place in the land owned by families. These ranches and backyards all feature a type of fence that is designed to allow people in while also keeping them out. In this trio of plays, the future ( El Cabrito /The Goat), a greedy neighbor ( Una Lucha de Apuesta /A Betting Match), and the Border Patrol ( El Partido /The Game) show how the manufactured fences around their property are simply a line in the sand, an imaginary border, that can be crossed by forces greater than the inhabitants.
