Abstract

This chapter examines an art-based pedagogical intervention in a postgraduate Effective Managerial Communication course at Birla Institute of Management Technology, India. Using applied theatre, students adapted autoethnography research papers into short plays, addressing real-world issues like gender sensitivity, cyberbullying, and mental health. This approach created a psychologically safe space to embrace vulnerability and trauma, fostering empathy, non-verbal communication skills, and critical reflection on societal norms. Participants reported personal growth and a transformed worldview, emerging as empathetic, sensitive communicators aware of global challenges. The intervention aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, embedding sustainability into education. Students&s; evolution was reflected in Sustainability Mindset Principles, predominantly "Spiritual Intelligence" and "Emotional Intelligence", with some emphasis on "Ecological Worldview". This innovative pedagogy successfully integrated quality ethnography research, real-world relevance, and holistic learning, enhancing students&s; capacity for ethical, sustainable leadership.
