Abstract

In the previous chapter, the context of globalization within which transnational activism developed has been studied. Within this context, CSOs have played an increasingly significant role in the last 40 years. Having presented the main contextual and historical characteristics of transnational activism, this chapter now focuses on the specific elements of its political agency: identity, goals, strategies, legitimacy, and impact of civil society organizations acting transnationally. The next chapter will instead elaborate on the interpretative key of the present study: it will focus on the main political frames and their macro reference in terms of ideal models that help us to differentiate from the perspective of global politics such transnational actors.
