Abstract

Despite myths that suggest collaboration is different every time and there is no ‘road map’ to follow, it is possible to understand a collaborative relationship using a distinct set of universal characteristics which are independent of industry and other outside factors such as environmental and political influences. There is a reliable, repeatable method of understanding the performance dynamics of collaborative relationships that allows managers to look, possibly for the first time, at what they and their organizations are doing and see clearly how they are actually working with their partners.
