Abstract

In this chapter, Thompson presents the DISCOVER framework – a practical model for applying anti-racist principles in daily work. Each letter of DISCOVER stands for a key component: Dignity, Inclusion, Solidarity, Challenge, Openness, Voice, Empowerment and Respect. This framework translates theory into actionable guidance, supporting practitioners and managers in fostering inclusive, equitable environments. Thompson emphasizes the need for consistency, integrity, and a commitment to continuous learning. He explores how the DISCOVER model can help identify and dismantle systemic inequalities while promoting shared responsibility and ethical leadership. The chapter encourages readers to reflect on their own role and sphere of influence, offering examples of how the framework can inform decision making, communication and team culture. Practising anti-racism is positioned not as a one-off intervention but as a sustained, values-based approach to professional life. This chapter provides a roadmap for turning good intentions into tangible, constructive change.
