Abstract

This chapter takes stock of what was discussed in Part IV of this book, providing an overview of the various policy options available to states hosting undesirable but unremovable migrants, while emphasizing that these should not be interpreted as a definitive blueprint. The chapter discusses three categories of policy options: facilitating return to the country of origin; outsourcing the ‘problem’ to a third country, in cases where removal to the country of origin is not an option; and the management by host countries of undesirable but unremovable migrants who remain within their borders. Most of these options are aimed at resolving the issue of unremovability, rather than addressing undesirability.
