Abstract
This is an original chapter reproduced from the first edition. Arnold Goldberg and Paul Stepansky posthumously published Kohut&s;s final ideas in this book that came, in part, as a response to early criticism. Kohut redefined mental health in a non-pejorative way and offered his concept of a whole non-defective self, capable of fully realizing its deepest potentials.
