Abstract

This is a reproduced original chapter that explicates Kohut&s;s early papers from 1948 to 1960. Three themes emerge in these papers that are foundational for Kohut&s;s future theorizing. They are: Freud&s;s metapsychology , narcissism , and epistemic questions about data collection.
