Abstract

This chapter explores Pete’s reaction and contribution to the music therapy inquiry. Data directly from the project is presented and juxtaposed to allow the reader to make new connections and meanings. Pete’s music and actions are described in detail. There is a particular focus on how he built relationships with others during the musical play and how he found new ways of moving instruments around the room. Throughout the process of the inquiry, descriptions of his choices and actions and responses to him from other residents and the questions he raised are described and reflected on, including extracts from reflective writing at the time by both music therapists. The chapter includes recent retrospective reflections from Nick, the music therapist, on his learning from the experience. The crucial questions Pete raised through his participation are summarised and discussed at the end.
