Abstract

The final concluding chapter explores media capture in other European Member States which is less visible than Hungary and Poland and offers further avenues of research (including looking at the newly adopted European Media Freedom Act (EMFA)) as well as recommendations that could serve as policy proposals for the EU vis-à-vis its candidates. This would include clear and quantifiable methodology for measuring compliance to rule of law (RoL) conditionality, in addition to defining the concepts of independence and pluralism of the media and adopting a more critical, active stance towards violations to RoL by autocratic elites.
