Abstract

This chapter provides educators with language for addressing weight-based bullying, teaching about body diversity, promoting inclusive physical activity, and communicating with parents about weight-neutral approaches to health education. The content focuses on effective prevention strategies that include anti-bullying policies, implementing comprehensive anti-bias education, fostering weight-inclusive school cultures, and educating staff about their own implicit biases related to body size. The chapter offers specific tools and language designed to support educator development and professional growth. The material includes recommendations for a comprehensive communication plan with families through informational newsletters, frequently asked questions addressing common concerns, and practical guidance for implementing weight-inclusive practices at home to ensure consistent messaging across environments. Additionally, the chapter provides tools for students that help guide them to act as empowered allies and equips them to intervene effectively when teachers are not present. These resources work together to create a school culture where weight-based bullying becomes socially unacceptable and all students feel valued regardless of body size.
