Abstract

This chapter introduces the central puzzle: why has Ukraine’s integration trajectory diverged from that of other post-communist states despite strong societal support for the EU? It outlines the book’s conceptual framework, distinguishing self-contained from exported Europeanisation. It introduces the topic in an extensive way, and each concept is explained in detail. This chapter situates Ukraine within broader international integration patterns and briefly presents the methodology and structure of this book.
