Abstract

This chapter presents a comprehensive framework for the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) in public services. While AI offers transformative potential for government operations, successful implementation requires addressing practical challenges including securing adequate funding, establishing strong leadership, and developing measurable objectives with clear timelines. The integration should ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability across all demographics. The chapter identifies three critical stages for responsible AI adoption: building foundational infrastructure and digital literacy, implementing targeted pilot programmes through cross-sector partnerships, and scaling solutions while embedding oversight mechanisms. Global trends, including technological convergence and digital divide challenges, are shaping deployment strategies and require governments to address public sentiment and resistance through transparent communication. Success depends on transforming organisational culture by encouraging employee experimentation, providing practical training environments, and establishing dedicated teams for rapid prototyping. The ultimate vision includes real-time policy feedback loops, straightforward citizen interactions, and the removal of systemic barriers, creating more efficient and responsive public services.
