Abstract

Progressive educators of the 20th century diagnosed education’s central problem with remarkable clarity: the curriculum curse that condemns students to years of practicing skills whose purpose remains opaque. They proposed a radical solution: let students engage with authentic complexity from the start. Their vision was theoretically sound, pedagogically promising, and practically impossible on the large scale; until now.
