Abstract

The previous chapter explored the new capabilities that emerge as essential in an AI-enhanced educational environment. But recognizing what students need to learn is only the beginning. The more challenging question is how educational institutions must transform their basic organizational principles to make such learning possible. Chapter 6 demonstrated that the curriculum curse need not be permanent; that progressive education’s dream of engaging students with meaningful complexity from the start now has the technological infrastructure to succeed. Yet infrastructure alone does not guarantee transformation. We cannot simply resurrect old progressivist theories and expect them to work in an AI-rich world. What we need is a new synthesis: a theory of leaping curriculum that honors both the insights of progressive education and the unique capabilities that AI enables.
