Abstract

The transformation of learning activities explored in Chapter 10 creates an immediate downstream crisis: how do we assess learning when the traditional evidence of intellectual work can be produced by machines with minimal human input? This question strikes at the heart of educational credentialing. For over a century, we have inferred learning from artifacts that students produced under controlled conditions. When those artifacts no longer require the cognitive engagement they once demanded, the entire assessment edifice threatens to collapse.
