Abstract

AI’s arrival in education resembled an earthquake, revealing which buildings were constructed on solid foundations and which merely appeared sturdy. The technology showed us that much of what we believed about teaching and learning rested on assumptions that could not withstand serious pressure. The incoherent assessment systems, the arbitrary curriculum sequences, the theoretical poverty; none of these were created by ChatGPT. They were always there, functioning adequately in an environment that never seriously tested their validity. AI simply made their weakness impossible to ignore.
