Toward a Structuralist Psychiatry
Abstract
The mind–body problem remains an eternal challenge, defying simplistic reductionist solutions. Structuralism offers a counterbalance to modern monism by emphasizing the subjective aspects of human experience. By recognizing the limits and impossibilities inherent in life, structuralism curtails the overconfidence of contemporary scientific approaches that risk excluding the subject altogether. Psychiatry, as a discipline, must make room for the subject if it is to retain its credibility and relevance.
