Outline of the Problem Facing Psychiatry
Abstract
Modern psychiatry faces significant challenges in addressing serious mental illnesses effectively. Psychological explanations are increasingly being replaced by naturalistic models. Symptoms are no longer interpreted or understood but are instead treated as nuisances to be eradicated. While phenomenology and psychoanalysis continue to explore the hermeneutic value of symptoms, they play only a minimal role in contemporary psychiatry.
