Abstract

This text focuses on the development of object relations theory, though it acknowledges that nothingness acts as a driving force in the background. This may seem paradoxical, but it is not. Object relations theory itself emerged from nothingness. Nothingness forms the foundation of desire, which seeks its object in the Other. This section sets out the context for this perspective on object relations theory.
