Abstract

Since the Enlightenment of the 18th century, science has distanced itself from metaphysics and the transcendental. Psychiatry, as a relatively young discipline, has largely adopted these Enlightenment ideals, focusing on empiricism and objectivity. While certain schools, such as psychoanalysis, anthropological psychiatry, and anti-psychiatry, previously offered alternative perspectives, these have been marginalized in favor of a physicalist orientation that sidelines the subject and dismisses the transcendental.
